southern Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast
I lived for four years in New Orleans. My medical education came first but my musical education was always close behind and took precedent during vacations from school. During Katrina and now Gustav, I watch from afar with concern and worry how friends and the community are doing. The silver lining of this storm is my friend Hazel recommended I follow the commentary of Bob Breck on his blog. http://bobbreck.com/
As I scan the many news service updates on the internet, it is hard to find a more clear and well backed up summary on the latest status of the hurricane.

When south meets north
A group of musicians from southwest Virginia will be playing at the Irvington Town Hall on Friday September 12 at 8 pm. I will be sitting in for a couple of tunes with Gerald Anderson and Spencer Strickland. There will also be a performance Sunday September 14 at Jalopy in Red Hook. Workshops given by the musicians in both playing and building will be in the afternoon.

The big event for old time and bluegrass jamming (as well as a fantastic lineup of performers, workshops and films) is coming up at the Park Slope Jamboree out at the Ethical Cultural Center in Park Slope. The Jalopy event above is an extension of this year's Jamboree.
